Friends of Midtown Holiday Decorating Contest

FOM’s 4th annual holiday decorating contest recognizes those who use their outdoor space to bring a little holiday cheer. Entries can be residences, institutions, or blocks. 

To enter, send name, e-mail or phone number, and address to beautification@friendsofmidtown.org or PO Box 5291, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Entries are due by 12/16, will be photographed by 12/18 and winners will be announced at the end of the month.

Dogs for Adoption by the Humane Society

The Nutcracker –Saturday, December 10th at 1pm and 5pm & Sunday December 11th at 2pm, Whitaker Center
Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet is pleased to present the enchanting holiday classic: George Balachine’s The Nutcracker at Whitaker Center.  CPYB will perform on Saturday, December 10th at 1 pm and 5 pm and Sunday, December 11th at 2 pm.  In an atmosphere charged with holiday spirit, a festive party, a magical gift and a fanciful dream, audiences will revel in the wonder as casts of more than 140 dancers take them on a journey to the Land of Sweets.

Harrisburg by Candlelight: Join the Historic Harrisburg Association on Sunday, 12/11, for their 38th annual Candlelight House Tour. The tour will run from 1-6pm and will feature 13 historic residences and public properties throughout Harrisburg. tickets: www.historicharrisburg.com

Crime & Public Safety

With the recent reports of crime incidents in the Midtown area, please be extra alert, without hesitation report any questionable activity to the police, and keep in touch with your neighbors about what’s going on on your block.

Simple safety tips:

1) Keep your porch lights on
2) Avoid walking alone
3) While walking, keep an eye in front & behind you & cross the street if you feel suspicious about someone approaching you

 Harrisburg Trash Ordinance

Just a reminder that all trash must be kept in a receptacle with a tight fitting lid. No trash or recycling is to be placed at the curb before 6:00pm the day before collection.

This ordinance is in place to help prevent loose and overflowing trash from littering the neighborhood, as well as to help prevent stagnant water issues and rodents.

In partnership with the Harris Street Community Church, ECG will hold its 3rd annual NNO Block Party. A great time to get together with neighbors and celebrate “America‘s Night Out Against Crime.” 

Live music, balloons, food & drinks, public safety information from the City of Harrisburg Adopt a Lot Bureau of FireBureau of Police, community garden tips from the Green Urban Initiative, a raffle for Broad Street Market Dollars and much more! 

 

 

Friends of Midtown Urban Landscaping Contest

Deadline to enter is Saturday, July 30th 

To enter your garden, e-mail a photo (or more) and your address tobeautification@friendsofmidtown.org.  The in-person panel (two to four individuals) judging is the following Saturday. Online polling for popular favorite will run probably from next weekend to two weeks later.  Please share this with your gardening friends and neighbors!
